Cabinets and flooring ?

Does anyone know why they put the cabinets down before they put the flooring in? We are getting hardwood in the kitchen and morning room and I thought the hardwood would go down first and then cabinets over top ?

  1. I thought they just cut around the cabinets. It's how they do it here. Electical runs up through our island to outlets. It would be a pain to run that through the wood AND the cabinets. Just a thought.

  2. To be honest, I've never heard of it being done any other way. The cabinets must go in first so that they can be secured, wired and plumbed in properly. Then the flooring is fitted neatly around the cabinets, which (in the case of hardwood) provides additional security for the cabinetry. Anyway, you wouldn't want to pay for flooring you can't see!

  3. Because they can lay less tile, hardwood etc and in turn they pay for less materials. Comes down to their bottom line. Just hope you don't have to move your cabinets, or get new ones of a different footprint some day!

  4. It is definitely a money thing and like SCJ said, you really wouldn't want to pay for the flooring you will never see.
