surround speakers-pre wire ?

Hello everyone has anyone got the surround pre-wire with guardian not the speaker package just the pre-wire if so can you post some pics because I would like to see how where it comes out of the wall looks. I currently have some klipsch speakers bout 5x2 that I can mount but thinking bout maybe buying my own in wall or in ceiling speakers to go with the pre-wire ( I think guardians price was way to high) that why I only went with the pre-wire so if any one has any pics or has it on their blog please direct me to the blog thanks

  1. Hey Robert - if you aren't going to finish your basement, I wouldn't pay for the pre-wire. The Guardian rep himself told us that it would be really easy for us to wire the living room ourselves someday, since there isn't a finished basement.

As a girl who likes the sound to come from the tv, not from behind me, I'm anti-speakers-on-the wall. In the model home, they had in wall speakers, but to me it looked kind of industrial/office-y. I'm sure BF will eventually get speakers on the wall though, which will be ok, as long as he hides them with fresh flowers every week. :)

  4. We did finish our basement and we got 2 pre-wires(family room & basement) as well as the Klipsch. I priced out the speakers before our Guardian meeting and while they were more then if I bought them myself, it was within about $200 for the set of 5...plus they would be wired in the wall and installed...I think that was fair. If you are doing the in ceiling or wall you need to also purchase the housing for the speaker.

In our family room we are running all the audio/video from our hall closet to the wall above the fireplace. The hall closet and above fireplace is a mass of cables...I have a picture of the wires above the fireplace...just realized I don't have one of the closet...Once our drywall is done I will post pics of what it looks like in a finished state, but my understanding is you will have labeled jacks on the wall for each of the connections...not just the loose wire sticking out.

  5. Guardian's prices for the actual speakers are fairly reasonable when you factor in the cost of having them installed. I'm having them put in two 5.1 systems, and a pre-wire for a 7.1 system. The exception is the subwoofers, which are not really a good match or a good price. The "outlets" for the speakers are supposed to be binding posts or jacks (I've seen pictures of both), not bare wires.

  6. We have the 7 channel surround sound prewire in our basement media room. They put plates over the wires that are outlet cover size so you don't see exposed wires. I only have one pic of that area on the blog and it's about 3 weeks before closing...here https://picasaweb.google.com/blagraves/May222011#5609629929918989618
That's currently our staging area for the stuff we have yet to unpack, but I can go down and take some pics if you'd like me to.
